"Hi, I'm Judy Coates Perez and today we're going to talk about how I work making my art quilts, and I'll be showing you how to create a wholecloth painted quilt project from start to finish. Lets get started!" — Judy Coates Perez
Judy is an International award-winning mixed media textile artist, traveling globally to teach painting and mixed media techniques on fabric and lecture about her creative process. She received her BFA in graphic design from The Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design, but found her true passion when she began working with textiles. One part gypsy and two parts visual alchemist, Judy travels to new places, opening up new realms of possibilities for her students by revealing endless ways to combine paint, paper and metal with fabric and the sources of inspiration we all too often overlook in our immediate worlds.
"I'm not a quilter, my interest in this video was to see how Judy painted her cloth, but I was absorbed from start to finish. What I really appreciated was the time she took to show us how to mix the paints, then how she achieved her shading, all the little tips and tricks you find out only by doing something well for years! The close-up photography was good; its often very hard to get the shots we all want to see because hands have to get in the way, but this was not hurried and Judy's explanations were very clear all the way through. So clear, in fact, that I may just tackle a small art quilt. She is an excellent teacher. This is as good as any real life workshop, because you get to see far more than you would in a class-room! I can thoroughly recommend it!" —Caroline
